Orca , the killer whale..is a toothed whale that belongs to the family of dolphins and considered to be the largest member of the dolphins. It is an efficient predator, attacking huge young blue whales and other large marine animals...for that sometimes it's called "Wolf of the sea" because its behavior is similar to that of Wolves.
Orca whale lives in waters ranging from tropical to arctic, and both coastal and deep oceanic waters. It is found in all the world's oceans and most of the seas.
Orcas are highly professional hunters and very fast swimmers that feed on a very diverse diet of fish , squid , sharks , marine mammals (including whales and seals), turtles, octopi, and birds (penguins and gulls). They have even been known to attack young blue whales and other large whales. They have 10-13 pairs of large, interlocking conical, enameled teeth distributed in both the upper and lower jaws (for a total of 20 to 26 pairs) and so the orca has well designed teeth that curve inwards and backwards helping the orca catch its prey.
The killer whale can dive to a depth of 30 m in order to hunt and an average-sized orca eats 250 kg of food per day and keep growing to be about 8-10 m long, and weighing more than 3.600-5.400 kg.
Orcas gather and live in small, close-knit pods (long-lasting groups) and the members of a pod frequently cooperate in hunts. The Orca can breathe air at the surface of the water through a blowhole located near the top of the head. The male orca is larger than the female and has a life expectancy of 50-60 years , while the Female orca has a life expectancy of 90 years.
Unfortunately Human beings are a danger threatening this animal by illegal extensive hunting..please leave this gorgeous animal to live its life normally...never mess with the nature.
