Although they live most of their lives beneath water surface and thought of to be a sort of fishes , Dolphines are warm blooded animals just like human beings. They are marine mammals that are closely related to Whales and feed mostly on fish and squid.
They are very sociable animals, living in groups called pods up to a dozen individuals , interacting with each other from time to time. Pods can merge temporarily, forming a superpod which is so large groupings that may exceed 1000 dolphins.
Dolphins communicate using varieties of clicks, whistles and other vocalizations , they make ultrasonic sounds and also by means of echo.Dolphins can establish strong social bonds; they keep very close to injured or ill individuals, even helping them to breathe by bringing them to the surface if needed.
Dolphins carry their young inside their womb for about 12 months. The baby is born tail first, and its mother will feed the calf for up to 2 years.
However, the calf will stay with its mother for between 3-6 years, during that time it will learn all about feeding techniques, social interaction , group hunting , and how to be self dependant .
Sometimes Dolphins jump over the water surface performing acrobatic figures and movements thought mainly to be intended for locating groupings of fish by looking at above-water signs like feeding birds, communicating with other dolphins, dislodging parasites or simple amusement.
Playing is something essential to dolphins , they enjoy riding waves and frequently surf coastal swells and the bow waves of boats. Occasionally, they playfully interact with swimmers. Captive dolphins have been observed in aquariums engaging in complex play behavior which involves the creation and manipulation of bubble rings.
This is a public call for all people to raise awareness of the importance of these magnificent animals....spread the word.. Dolphins are awesome lovely intelligent animals and can really bring a smile to your face.
